What new opportunities has the Chief Litigation Officer Summit brought to you? 

It provided me the opportunity to meet service providers from around the country that can provide legal assistance in the states we operate in. My meetings started some very valuable relationships. 

Did you end up hiring any of the firms? 

Yes, I have worked with at least five, possibly up to ten firms over the years. I hired some in my previous position but since coming to Society Insurance, I hired at least four in the past three years. I also made many more contacts that I plan to utilize as needed. Marcus Evans has helped me a great deal in finding really good talent. 

Had you heard of or been in touch with those firms before? 

No, the vast majority were first time meetings. There was a good rapport when I met the individuals. In most cases they provided services that I know we would need either immediately or in the near future. At the Summit, we got to know them in person and start developing a really good relationship before even offering them any opportunity to work for us. 

Would you have ended up hiring them if they had approached you directly? 

Very unlikely. That’s not the way I like to do business. I don’t take cold calls. I feel more comfortable if I have met the person, and if someone has referred them to me. There must be some sort of a personal relationship, either with me or someone I know very well, before I retain them. 

Would you have found these firms on your own?

I doubt it. I would not go on the internet looking for new service providers.

Do you find the one-on-one meeting format an effective or efficient way to meet service providers?

Yes, very. In a short period of time, you can size-up the individuals, and they get the chance to hear what I am looking for.

How would you compare Marcus Evans Summits with other industry events?

I attend many industry meetings, and have found the Chief Litigation Officer Summit to be one of the best ways to find firms and providers without having to cold search and do things on my own. Marcus Evans sets the table for me, and I can go there and tick the entities that I want to meet with. It is a very efficient process. I enjoy it.

Marcus Evans also does a very good job of bringing speakers on topics that are very topical and relevant to what is going on in the industry. The team is great. Very attentive to my needs, knowledgeable and responsive. They know what they are doing, and they do a great job before and during the Summit.
