I only give vendors a chance at the Marcus Evans Summit
“We have contracted one company we met at the Summit, and might work with one more. I receive so many calls and emails, I only give vendors a chance if they have gone the extra mile to get in front of me,” said Philip Boyce, SVP & Chief Revenue Officer, Baptist Health, a speaker and delegate at Marcus Evans Healthcare CFO, Financial Strategy & Revenue Cycle Summit.
What new opportunities have the two Summits brought your way?
The opportunity to meet vendors that I would not have heard of, or been able to meet. The chance to network with peers, which is helpful from a business perspective.
We contracted with a vendor we had not heard of. That has been the biggest benefit. We also had many discussions with another company, and might work with them in the future. Both are outstanding!
Has this relationship lead to considerable savings for Baptist Health?
We are very pleased with this vendor, and appreciate the chance to work together. It is a good business relationship.
Would you have given them the same chance if they had called or emailed you?
Not at all. I get 30 emails a day from people hoping I will call or email back. I do not even want to work with such companies! If they do not make an investment to get to me, to establish a relationship with us at an event, I am not interested. I only listen to those that make an effort. I receive so many emails every day from people asking me for 30 minutes. I do not have the time to read them, let alone meet them, so I just delete every email.
It is next to impossible to get through my door. You have to be creative, to figure out a unique way to get to me, and the Marcus Evans Summit is a good way to do that. When I go to a Summit, I am there for two and a half days, and open to meeting people and talking business. Even if I do not have a scheduled one-on-one meeting, I am there and someone can grab me at lunch time.
There are so many companies inundating me, I just cannot connect over the regular way, over an email or phone call.
What expectations did you have prior to your first event?
I did not know what to expect, but I found the quality of the attendees, speakers and vendors outstanding! It exceeded my expectations because usually all those factors are not outstanding at the same event. But they were at this Summit. I was impressed.
How would you compare the Marcus Evans Summits with other industry events?
The Summits are very well run, top quality in every way. There is a nice variety with speaker presentations and vendor meetings. Not all conferences do that. The content of the presentations was valuable and I learned a lot. That was a real positive. The one-on-one meetings work well.
