Marcus Evans exposed us to new investment opportunities

“Marcus Evans exposed us to investment opportunities that we would not have found ourselves. I have now invested some of my personal money into an organisation I had never heard of,” said Benny Wong, Vice President, Glory United Investment Limited – Yen family, a delegate at the Marcus Evans Private Wealth Management APAC Summit.

What possibilities did the Summit bring to your organisation?

Many managers we met at the Summit were from organisations that were decent-sized but not large enough to be on a private bank platform. On our own, we would not have had access to those direct investment deals.

The Summit also linked me up with many single and multi family offices, and we were able to share best practices.

Have you invested in any funds or managers?

To start with, I invested some of my own money into one fund. If it generates the return it says it will, I could increase the investment to a much larger amount. I had not heard of the fund but our one-to-one meeting was quite interesting. We had a second meeting in Hong Kong, they sent over more information, and in the end, I decided to invest.

I am also following-up with another manager to see if there are any further opportunities between us.

Would you have given these organisations the same chance if they had called or emailed you?

No. If a random company or person calls or emails me, I ignore it. I invest mostly through private banks or I might hear about a co-investment opportunity through friends.

How efficient did you find the one-to-one meeting format?

The format is very good. It does not take up too much of our time and we get a good basic understanding of what potential investment opportunities are available.

How would you compare Marcus Evans Summits with other industry events?

I attend many private bank events, and I can honestly say that the Marcus Evans Summit is one of the best in the industry. It is family office and business oriented, and the people I meet are truly from that space. The presentations are spot on, compared to other events.

Many industry events claim to be for family offices, but a lot of times they are focused on selling from the bank side, rather than having different family offices share their experiences.
