We committed investments into different funds from the Marcus Evans Summit

“We allocated two different investments into two opportunities that we came across at the marcus evans Summit. It would have been very difficult to find them without attending the Summit,” said Carlos Munoz, Head of Finance, RBM Group, a single family office in Latam, a delegate at the marcus evans Private Wealth Management Summit.

What new business and investment opportunities did the Summit introduce you to?

As a small and new family office, the Summit opened up many new doors for us. It was our first time exploring private equity investment opportunities directly, and we gained a better understanding of how that world works.

We had conversations with around 20 different companies, which led to around eight follow-up meetings, and we selected two of them. We have already invested in one and working on the structure with the other. We will start with a small amount in each opportunity before we commit more. We want to understand their business models better, look at returns and what they may offer in the future.

Had you come across these funds or managers before?

No, they were all brand new to me. We receive many calls about these kinds of investment opportunities and even when their business model sounds interesting, there is the risk of fraud. When you know nothing about a fund or manager, it is difficult to make that first step. Those attending a marcus evans event have at least gone through a screening process, which helps us take the next step.

What did you think of the one-on-one meeting format?

It was very efficient and effective. We had an organized agenda and could look at the company profiles beforehand. During our 30-minute meetings, we could get straight to the point. If we wanted more info, we could then arrange a follow-up; if we didn’t find them interesting, we could move on to the next one.

Did you find the speaker presentations and panel discussions valuable?

Yes. Most of them were very interesting and focused on topics that I wanted to learn more about. I was pleasantly surprised with most of them. The speakers were very knowledgeable.

Did the Summit exceed your expectations in any other way?

Yes. It was very well organized. I was very surprised by the level of the investors and family office members who had attended. As it was my first time, I didn’t have any special expectations, but it was a very interesting experience. To hear what other family offices have done over the past few decades and what they are doing now was very valuable.

It is a big world out there and family offices like ours need to be present and open to new opportunities. To expand our connections, I plan to attend more Summits in the future.
