We had the Marcus Evans Summit vendor’s products at our facilities within a month
“Within a month of the Summit, we had already bought products from one of the companies we met at the event, and had placed them in all of our Memory Support Communities. It is usually very difficult for a vendor to get to my door,” said Anja Rogers, Chief Executive Officer, Senior Star, a delegate at the marcus evans LTC & Senior Living CXO Summit.
"It is usually very difficult for a vendor to get to my door."
What new possibilities and ideas did the Summit bring your way?
The Summit was a very efficient way to get introduced to different suppliers and professionals in the industry. We came across some products that no-one in our organization had heard of, that our residents could use to stimulate their brain. We found the devices intriguing, and immediately turned it over to our programs team. In under 30 days, those devices were in all of our communities that have memory support.
It was a pretty big win-win for us. Our associates loved it, because it was a simple rollout and easy to use. Dealing with residents with memory loss is a stressful job, and this device could be used to provide some relief to the residents when they get agitated. It was a home run for us, and I am not sure we would have ever discovered the product without the Summit.
Why not? Would you have given them a chance if they had called or emailed you?
Probably not. It is very rare I take a sales call. Of course, there is a slight chance that I would come across their email, as I do not automatically delete. Being at the Summit, having the opportunity to select vendors to meet, having one-on-one meetings to learn about their products, gave me some control over it.
Did you find the one-on-one meeting format efficient?
Thirty-minutes was enough time to discuss what was important to us, what we were looking for and to check if we could work together. I have attended an event that provided less time for each meeting, and it was very difficult to understand what each vendor did. The vendors we met at the Summit handled their time really well. Overall, the format of the marcus evans Summit was very good.
How would you compare the Summit with other industry events?
It stacks up very well against other events. I was quite impressed. The staff was extremely hospitable, looking to see what we might need before we even asked. Most of the speaker presentations were unique and valuable.
