“We raised capital from around 15 LPs from seven Marcus Evans Summits. The investments ranged from USD 250,000 to several million,” said Jeff Pomeranz, Managing Director, Right Side Capital Management, an investment firm at the Marcus Evans Private Wealth Management Summit.
The primary reason why we attend is to meet new potential LPs for our funds, and that is what we get. I come away from every Summit with at least 12 high-quality, new relationships, and potential investors for our funds.
Around two LPs from each Summit have invested, and we have a good number of ongoing relationships that I believe will result in an allocation. The cycle is very long. The investments ranged from USD 250,000 to several million. The Summit was the starting point. Most investors tend to reup with the next fund you launch, and it’s usually a larger amount.
Marcus Evans does a good job of getting in new people every time. I usually don’t know most of the LPs I meet. The family office market is huge, and notoriously private. It is very difficult to find them because they don’t have a public-facing presence. Even when we had found them, the challenge was to get them to agree to sit down and listen to us. The industry is getting more and more noisy. LPs are swamped with email and cold outreach. The level of response has decreased in the past five years. Therefore the value of paying for an event where I know I will have meaningful time engaging with new potential investors is greater. It is harder to break through the noise on our own.
The level of engagement is high. Most of the LPs are interested in learning about us. They have been vetted, and they want to meet new managers and discover new products. They know what the one-on-one meetings are for. It is not a 100 percent fit all the time, but the meetings start with an interest in what we do.
Marcus Evans does a good job of keeping the focus on manager-investor relationship generation. That is how Marcus Evans stands out. Other events are often content focused, and investors shy away from meeting managers. At the Summit, the 30-minute one-on-one meetings are the lynchpin. They keep the focus on what managers want to get out of the experience. Marcus Evans does this much better than other event organizers I have come across. That’s ultimately why we keep coming back. At most other conferences, you don’t know what value you will get out of it. That’s not how we want to spend our time or money. With the Private Wealth Management Summit, we know it won’t be a waste of our time.
