Our client invested millions into a fund we met at the Summit
“Our client invested EUR 30 million into a fund I was introduced to at the Elite Summit. I would not have considered that opportunity if I had not met the manager at the Summit. Another client hired a firm I met there to run a few projects. The Summit was very valuable as I don’t usually consider unsolicited investment opportunities,” said Carla Cairós Da Silva, General Director & Founder, Radices Consulting, a delegate at the Marcus Evans Elite Summit.
What new opportunities did the Summit bring your way?
We met some very interesting people and had further discussions with three of them. I did not know them before the Summit, and would not have considered them if they had approached me on their own. We had around six good contacts two of which have already been successful.
Why don’t you consider unsolicited opportunities?
Years ago, I decided I would not consider unsolicited investment opportunities because there are simply too many of them. We would need a team dedicated to reviewing them. We are constantly approached on LinkedIn and by email. There are so many knocking on our door that even if some of them are real opportunities, we just don’t have time to check them.
Is there a chance you would have found them on your own?
If we had been looking for that type of opportunity for our clients, we might have eventually found them, but we weren’t looking. It just happened because of our face-to-face meeting at the Summit.
Is it a tough process to get through your door, for a fund to get an allocation from your clients?
Yes. We do very few funds, and when we do, we look at them very carefully. There is so much on offer that we want to make sure we are choosing the right people. It is not just about the numbers. Discovering the person behind the fund is crucial for us.
Did you find the presentations valuable?
Yes, I did. There was one in particular that was just for family members and people very high up in family offices, which was very valuable. The presenter was great. It felt like an open conversation. I really enjoyed the format and the contacts I made.
